The Sentinel

I have the impression that lately the Sentinel has become more right-wing and
even more parochial and trivial than it was. They also appear to be printing
pages of letters; I suppose it's cheaper than paying journalists to write
articles.

They also publish the opinions of people who pontificate about the rights and
wrongs of the world. I do not know what qualifies them to decide what should
be and why anyone should take any notice of their views. They could be drunken
womanisers for all I know, in fact I am told that this description would fit a
higher proportion of those in the newspaper business than the general public.

Does anyone take it seriously?

I'm always surprised by the pages and pages of incoherent letters that the
Sentinel prints. I've never come across a local paper that prints so many,
and I've read a few :-)

This isn't a new development - it's been going on for several years at
least.

Ha! When I look at The Sentinel the first pages I look at are the
letters pages. Some of them could be straight out of Viz. I get the
feeling they print stupid letters just to provoke more idiots to reply.

I rarely read the sentinel, perhaps if i'm stuck in some waiting room
bored and there's one lying around i'll pick it up and have a read but
thats about it.

I'd certainly never buy one, they printed a misleading and innacurate
story about me some years ago (they reported that i'd been in court
charged with driving a car uninsured, which was true enough, but they
failed to mention the fact that I was found NOT GUILTY and that the
whole fiasco was an administrative blunder by the police)

Anyway, whenever I do read the rag I find it full of mis-spellings,
typos and bad grammar. Anyone would think that in this day and age they
would employ writers that can actually spell !!! or at least know how to
use a bloody spell checker !!!.

I can't be the only one wondering. Is there anything in life that you
actually like?

What a strange question, why do you ask that ?

Because the only thing you ever do is bitch and moan. You don't like
the area, don't like the people, don't like the roads, don't like the
newspaper and I dare say don't like this newsgroup much.

It's so easy to pick fault but most things are like a curate's egg, good
in parts.

However, if it gives you pleasure to sound off in here, good luck to
you.

My original post asked him and anyone else to, "sound off," I thought that is
what news groups were for and if you are so adverse to it moaning and 'bitching'
why are you doing it?

We all enjoy a moan, I don't have a problem with that. But to do it
constantly is tedious.

Yes, they do. And that is why it can be quite dangerous.

I stopped buying it when they started printing the 'City Final' at breakfast
time.
